Highlights of the Ugratara temple
Maa Ugratara Temple is the oldest and most popular “Shakti Pitha” in Odisha. It is located in Mulajhargarh near Bhusandpur of Khorda district. Maa Ugratara is the main deity of the Tangi block. Nearby, there is a village called Bhusandpur, which is the largest village in Odisha. This place is well-known for its fishing grounds as it is close to Chilika Lake.
Maa Tara got her name because she looks angry. The King of Ganga Gajapati built a temple for her to protect the Fort of Mulajhargarh. The statue of Mother Tara has four arms and holds powerful weapons. She is known as Ugratara because she looks fierce, but she is kind to her worshippers. Even though the fort in Odisha has been forgotten, Goddess Ugratara is still worshipped by Brahmin priests and offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. She is still popular and remains the main goddess of coastal Odisha.
The Ugratara temple serves as the main attraction of this area, drawing in tourists and locals alike for visits and picnics in the Khorda district. It is a great spot for picnics and even for shooting movies.
