Truths about Siruli Mahavir
Puri is a well-known place for people who go on pilgrimages and it’s also a very spiritual center. It’s considered a holy land because it’s where Lord Jagannath is worshipped. In the state of Odisha, there are many temples dedicated to Mahavir, but in the district of Puri, there’s a famous one called Siruli Mahavir temple. This temple is really old and it’s all about Lord Hanuman, who is a very important deity in Hinduism. People come from all over to visit this ancient temple and offer their prayers to Lord Hanuman.
The temple priest tells us that Lord Mahavir is constantly gazing at the Neela Chakra of the Lord Jagannath Temple using his left eye. The original statue of Lord Mahavir, which is worshipped in the temple, mysteriously appeared all by itself. It was after this miraculous event that the temple was constructed by Anangabhima Deva – III, who was the ruler of Odisha from the Ganga dynasty.
In the temple, there is a very big statue of Lord Mahavir that is made from just one stone. It is so tall, reaching a height of 10 feet! During April, there is a special celebration called Hanuman Jayanti, which is observed on Sankranti. Many people come to visit the Siruli Mahavir temple during this time because it is very popular and attracts a huge crowd.
